Third International Shamanic Gathering, Oracle 2006

Offerings for Oracle, 2006
Village Activities for Friday morning & afternoon
and Saturday morning & afternoon

Sharing of our Harvests

As we make plans for our Oracle gathering, we invite those of you coming to consider what you can 'offer' on behalf of the whole village -- an expression of gratitude to the Spirits.

Doing Ceremony with many others is itself a way of making gratitude. In addition, however, some of us may be moved to gather in small Circles to amplify our experience of blessing and gratefulness – thus filling the Oracle Desert Days with the sound of many-hearts remembering and honoring.

It is our intention that these daily Offerings be somehow related to the Ceremonies each evening. Our daily activities become those that help us to focus – bringing increased clarity, renewal of energy, and power to each evening’s Ceremony.

As stated in the Oracle brochure:
" ...these offerings are done in much the same way Earth offers of her fruit to us, to be shared with others. Some of us may make things beforehand and bring them to Oracle while others of us create during Friday and Saturday."

We will have time each morning and afternoon for people to gather in groups to do these activities. If an Offering is directly related to the theme of an evening’s Ceremony, then it will be scheduled some time prior to that Ceremony.

Our Village Harvest – Offering Possibilities

Our Ceremonies of Thurs., Fri., and Sat. night focus on "Gathering up Our Tracks/Remembering Ourselves," Ceremony with our Ancestors," "The Ceremony of Right Relationship" and "Walking in the World" (our closing ceremony on Sunday morning).

As you consider what you have been blessed to harvest during your shamanic walk, consider what of your many blessings might be some fruit you can bring to the Village that also connects with these ceremonial themes.

Some of our ceremonies need items that you or your Circle might coordinate and gather others with you to do.

For example, we would like to have offering groups make or be responsible for the coordinating of making:

  • herbal bundles,
  • hand-made packets of native seeds,
  • prayer sticks
  • seed planting sticks
  • prayer ties
  • Sculpting of certain figures e.g., Turtle, Medicine Wheel

Each of these will require an Offering group. Some would possibly be working both on a morning and afternoon.

In addition, we shall need volunteers to assist in the daily rites of our village (e.g. Drumming up the Sun, Children’s circles and activities).

In addition, some other Offering suggestions that have been brought to our attention are:

  • times for healing work, such as extraction, soul-remembering, helping souls to cross over and assisting those grieving
  • Flute (learning together and playing together)
(Bob Edgar has indicated he will coordinate this Offering)
  • remembering and sharing our Ancestors’ Songs/Dances
  • different ways of working with Stones and Plants – specifically those in the Oracle Desert
  • remembering ourselves through stories (Story-telling)
  • introduction to journeying, opportunity to journey

These are just some possibilities. We recommend each of us journey as we consider if there is some Offering we wish to bring to the Village in this time of Give-Away and Harvest.

Planning Our Offerings

Those of us coordinating the overall unfolding of our Village schedule will work with each one submitting an Offering. Because time is limited, we suggest that Offerings be planned for an hour to two hours. We will try to have four different time slots: two in the morning – two in the afternoon. Some Offering groups such as the Shamanic Art and Flute Playing may take place over two days and/or find other times in which to meet informally. Until we begin to receive actual Offerings and have some sense of how we are coming together as a Village, it is difficult to make any firm plans. We will have to carefully allocate the available time to include as many opportunities for all to participate as possible – keeping in mind our ceremonial focus each day.

**** Our current plan is to have our Oracle schedule of days in place and posted on this site by middle of September. Thus, we encourage members of our Village to write us as soon as possible so our days can be woven smoothly and evenly together between now and October.

***** We would like to receive plans and descriptions for Offerings by August 1st. If there is some area already listed in which you are interested, please let us know as soon as possible.

If you, or a group with which you are connected, wish to do some offering, please send a description to either
Pirkko Miller at pirkko@embarqmail.com
and/or
Susan Gilliland at susan@gilliland.net

As the Offering groups develop, we will be posting the names of those who are coordinating each of them and thus whom you should contact if you are interested in participating in some specific activity. Of course, if you already have some idea of what you wish to offer, write Pirkko or Susan.

Please bookmark this page and check here periodically to see what Offerings have been posted; who is coordinating them; and how you might sign up to do something with one of these groups.

May we begin preparing, noting our many blessings...in five months we shall be bringing in our Canoes, sharing Offerings and doing Ceremony together.
Love,
CPE
